If the air waybill for an air import shipment is consigned directly to the final consignee and the forwarder is in ‘notify party’ on the airline MAWB, do we have to file eHBL?
NO. eHBL data transmission is required only if the MAWB is consigned to a freight forwarder.
If the MAWB is consigned to the final consignee/importer, the CBSA will receive the data in advance for risk assessment because the airline will be required to file ‘cargo and
conveyance’ data which includes shipper, consignee, pieces, weight and description. In this instance, the release request would be on the MAWB which is in the name of the importer.
