Do freight forwarders that also act as shipping agents need to register twice on the NAIC portal?
A freight forwarder that also acts as a shipping agent does not need to register twice.
A single registration on the NAIC portal is sufficient, and the same MPCI Party ID can be used for both roles:
- When acting as a freight forwarder, only the company’s own MPCI Party ID is required.
- When acting as a shipping agent filing on behalf of a shipping line, both the company’s own MPCI Party ID and the shipping line’s MPCI Party ID must be provided.
This ensures the filing is correctly attributed while avoiding duplicate registrations.
